DST 1.1 Mountain Bike Shoe
Shoe Assignment

Mood Board
I began by creating a mood board to guide the aesthetics and functionality of my shoe. I wanted to make my shoe comfortable, stylish, and inspire confidence on the trail.
Shoe Ideation
I began by experimenting with many styles of mountain biking shoes. I experimented with XC shoe, winter biking shoes, downhill shoes and racing shoes. I ended up continuing on with a downhill style mountain bike shoe.

Shoe Iteration
After deciding on a downhill shoe I began iterating on the design of the shoe. Staying true to REI's brand, I knew I needed to be sure to have the REI logo prominently displayed on the shoe. I also decided on making this a line of shoes, each depicting a different mountain bike park from around the world.

Platform Iteration
After deciding on a side design, I began iterating on the bottom of the shoe. I decided to make my shoe clipless, as I believe clipless shoes are more effective and look interesting. I went with a standard horizontal line pattern as it would be very effective on keeping the shoe planted in my application.

Colorway Iteration
I went on to choose a colorway for my shoe by looking at the color schemes of REI's products. I went with a green and tan colorway as I thought it best communicated the outdoors.

Final Render
For my final render I decided on a standard 3/4 perspective and a bottom view which helped show the Shimano clip. I also added the debossed emblem of Whistler Blackcomb Mountain, the mountain bike park I decided on advertising.

In Context
Finally, my in context render shows a rider flying high with my shoes firmly planted on his pedals.
